Coaching from real-life situations and sharing valuable knowledge gathered throughout her extensive career, Mary is dedicated to promoting leadership development and helping individuals achieve their full potential.

After a successful career in executive positions across a wide range of industries, Mary founded MTK Practical Leadership. Years of impactful leadership experiences inspired her to "pay it forward" by offering practical insights to other professional leaders.

Mary Tuuk Kuras

Mary Tuuk Kuras launched MTK Practical Leadership in 2023.

Before launching her own business, Mary spent four years as President & CEO of the Grand Rapids Symphony. In 2018, she was appointed senior vice president of properties and real estate for Meijer, Inc., where she served as chief compliance officer from July 2015. Prior to her tenure with Meijer, Mary had a 19-year career with Fifth Third Bancorp in Cincinnati, OH, serving as executive vice president of corporate services and secretary of the board of directors for Fifth Third Bancorp, president of Fifth Third Bank (Western Michigan), where she was responsible for the growth and strategic direction of significant lines of business, and executive vice president and chief risk officer of Fifth Third Bancorp during the financial crisis of 2008. She also held numerous executive positions before that time.

Mary was named one of the "25 Women to Watch in Banking" by the American Banker magazine each year from 2008 to 2014 and served on the board of United Bank of Michigan from 2019-2023.

After obtaining her B.A. from Calvin University and her J.D./M.B.A. from Indiana University, Mary began her career as an attorney with Chapman and Cutler, LLP in Chicago, IL as a transactional attorney for private placement financings. She then launched her financial services career, serving as senior vice president, secretary, and legal coordinator for Old Kent Financial Corporation in Grand Rapids, MI, until it was acquired by Fifth Third Bancorp in 2001.

Mary has been a director for UFP Industries, Inc., a public company, since 2014 and serves on its Audit Committee and Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee. She was recently appointed to the board of directors for Western Alliance Bancorporation, a public company headquartered in Phoenix, AZ.

Mary also serves as Vice Chair of the Calvin University Board of Trustees, her alma mater. With over 20 years of non-profit board leadership experience, Mary is dedicated to serving her community across various civic and educational institutions.
